Head of Business Banking

Location: Bristol (hybrid working)

Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer, Triodos Bank UK

The Opportunity:

This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape the future of impact‑led business banking in the UK.

As Head of Business Banking, you will lead our customer‑facing relationship and lending teams, enabling UK SMEs and social enterprises to thrive while contributing positively to society and the environment. You will be responsible for delivering sustainable growth, exceptional relationship management, and strong credit outcomes - always grounded in Triodos Bank’s mission and values.

This role combines strategic leadership, commercial judgement, and purpose‑driven decision‑making. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our business banking strategy, influencing how capital is deployed across key transition sectors, and setting the tone for ethical, customer‑centred banking.

Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role is designated as a Certified Function under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime, reflecting its seniority, autonomy, and influence.

We offer flexible, hybrid working, with typically two to three days per week in our Bristol Head Office, and flexibility to work from home on other days. Occasional travel to our Group Head Office in the Netherlands supports collaboration with our international colleagues.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead, inspire and develop senior relationship management and lending teams, creating a high‑performance, inclusive and impact‑focused culture.
  • Deliver a sustainable growth strategy in business lending, aligned to Triodos’ mission, risk appetite and strategic priorities.
  • Act as a senior decision‑maker on complex lending proposals, balancing risk, return, impact and long‑term customer outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with key clients, sector stakeholders and internal partners across the bank.
  • Ensure strong governance, regulatory compliance and consistently good customer outcomes.
  • Oversee portfolio performance and risk, championing ethical behaviour and sound credit judgement.
  • Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, capability and ways of working.

What We’re Looking For:

You are an experienced leader in UK SME or business lending, with a strong track record of leading relationship‑based teams and delivering sustainable growth. You are commercially astute, values‑driven, and comfortable operating at senior leadership level.

You are likely to bring:

  • Significant experience in UK business or commercial lending, including senior leadership of sales and/or relationship management teams.
  • Strong credit and risk expertise, with confidence handling complex lending decisions.
  • A leadership style that is inclusive, collaborative and developmental.
  • A genuine commitment to sustainability, ethical finance, and positive social and environmental impact.
  • Experience leading through change and working effectively with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

We recognise that great candidates do not always meet every criteria. If this role excites you and you believe you could make a meaningful contribution, we encourage you to apply.
