Job Description
Job Title:  UX design/research Internship
Req Id:  784
Business area:  Digital and Technology
Job Level:  Internship
Job Location (Short):  LA Driebergen-Rijsenburg, NLD

Do you want to make a difference and contribute to creating a better world? Are you interested in developing your skills and knowledge, while putting your ideals to work? Join us, we are a frontrunner in ethical banking and global impact investing, and we need people like you to make change happen.

We believe that money can change the world for the better. In fact, our organization was founded on this belief. Our mission is to create a society that protects and promotes the quality of life of all its members with human dignity at its core.

Our organisation has grown in both scale and complexity over the last few years, which creates more opportunities for young people to join us. Currently we would like to bring on board a dynamic and positive-minded student to support and learn from our UX team during a 4/6-month internship.

How you will make a difference

As our UX design/research intern, you'll own a focused research project end-to-end: from defining research questions, preparing mockups for testing sessions, setting up user-tests  and recruiting participants, synthesising findings, and presenting actionable insights to the team. Your primary project will focus on how customers understand and manage their payment limits in the Triodos mobile app — a feature area where we know confusion exists but lack the data to act on it. Your findings will establish a baseline we can measure future design improvements against. Concretely, you will:

  • Define research questions and success criteria for a focused study
  • Collect existing knowledge and data from our customer service and product colleagues
  • Prepare a research plan selecting and justifying an appropriate research method
  • Recruit and screen participants
  • Prepare tests materials (eg simple prototypes or screens)
  • Set up and run moderated or unmoderated test sessions
  • Analyse findings and identify patterns across participants
  • Present findings and design recommendations to the UX team
  • Contribute to building a reusable research practice and documentation
  • Collaborate closely with the lead UX designer for feedback and direction

Besides that:

  • You are currently enrolled at a Dutch University or Applied University and can provide a proof of enrolment
  • You are currently living in the Netherlands and have a BSN.

What you will bring

We are looking for someone who is eager to bring our customer into our design decisions and is eager to contribute to an evidence-based practice.

To be successful in this role, you are:

  • a motivated design student (preferably Master level) from HCI, CMD or service design education
  • organized and able to manage your time in an efficient way
  • have a solid understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • able to translate messy findings into clear, actionable insights
  • curious and structured: you ask good questions and document your thinking
  • comfortable with ambiguity – you can scope a research problem, not just execute a brief
  • comfortable with design and research tools (Figma, Ballpark, Maze UserTesting or Similar)
  • open to people and have developed good English communication skills

Your future colleagues

You will be part of a UX team of 4 designers and a UX Team Lead, working together with external design collaborators and a researcher. The team is in the process of moving into a centralised workstream alongside CX colleagues, reflecting the organisation's growing commitment to end-to-end customer thinking. Beyond the team, you will work closely with value streams’ leaders, developers, testers, colleagues from our commercial department, and subject matter experts from across the organisation.
